A significant and growing number of enterprises have adopted or publicized formal targets for reducing the environmental impact of their organizations, with most having formal target dates to achieve net-zero carbon emissions. IT operations are a major factor in sustainability, with roughly half of organizations identifying IT as the biggest contributor to their environmental impact. Sustainability matters are becoming increasingly critical to enterprise relationships with technology vendors and suppliers. As organizations expect to make major investments in meeting sustainability targets over the next several years, purchases and vendor selection are influenced by the sustainability efforts of those vendors, and are increasingly reliant on those vendors to supply resources and information on the environmental impact of technology. These trends were reflected in the responses to our Digital Pulse, Sustainability 2023 survey.
