DataOps maturity dictates data-driven practices

451 Research's Data & Analytics, Data Management & DataOps 2023 survey results emphasize that, across the board, 65% of respondents report their organizations are increasing investment in data management technology today relative to the past three years. However, this apparent acknowledgement of data management's critical function has additional nuance. The maturity of data-driven practices — particularly self-reported maturity in DataOps methodology — is much more determinant of specific data management motives, challenges, preferences and technologies than traditional measures of organizational size or complexity.

Organizations more mature in their DataOps activities can be thought of as "DataOps architects," while those not pursuing yet or just starting out can be thought of as "DataOps apprentices." However, common themes still exist as organizations try to ensure the availability of fresh and appropriate data for all the diverse data consumer groups within the business. Notably, organizations are largely aligned in how they try to track the success and performance of data management initiatives.
