Enterprises wrestle with IoT connectivity and security shortfalls, challenges

Internet of things deployments continue to face an evolving mix of connectivity and security requirements and challenges, according to our IoT, Connectivity & Security 2023 survey. On the network front, enterprises currently rely heavily on low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) IoT connectivity. However, they also worry about how long such networks will remain relevant in the face of emerging 5G alternatives, particularly for IoT projects and endpoints they would like to upgrade as infrequently as possible. Meanwhile, IoT projects — particularly in industrial-focused operational technology (OT) environments — face a growing mix of security threats, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and expanding geopolitical risks. Yet even in the face dangers, many enterprises are still in the early stages of securing their OT and IoT systems.
