Increased safety, EV integration propel interest in assisted driving, autonomy

Safety ratings have become a key factor influencing the purchasing decisions of consumers. One-third of respondents currently own a car with driver-assist features, and more than half will consider them for their next vehicle, according to 451 Research's Endpoints & IoT, Autonomous Vehicles 2024 survey. This reflects a growing awareness of vehicle safety and consumer trust in vehicle sensors to assist in basic tasks like adaptive cruise control, lane assistance, and collision warning and avoidance. That said, the majority of respondents remain cautious about shifting to fully automated driving. Meanwhile, the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and electric vehicle (EV) market remains a niche segment poised for long-term growth. A majority of HEV/EV owners show interest in autonomous vehicles (AVs) and are more familiar with vehicle technology and data sharing. Thanks to their new architectures, compute power and technology integration, EVs offer additional opportunities to transform the vehicle into a "datacenter on wheels" with autonomous driving and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) capabilities.
