Edge use cases have long included AI and machine learning, but the belief that all enterprises will make substantive use of AI has only recently become pervasive — and it comes with an expectation among some that AI inference will run primarily at the edge. It has yet to be seen how this will change edge planning, but a majority of respondents in our Edge Infrastructure & Services, Budgets & Spending 2024 survey believe it will augment rather than cannibalize their budgets. Fielded in May and June 2024, with approximately 450 IT decision-makers and edge infrastructure users, this survey focuses on enterprises’ expectations for edge infrastructure budgets, including the motivations for using the edge and the outcomes anticipated.
