Many IT professionals believe DevOps is dead and platform engineering is the future. However, just as DevOps displaced agile methodology 15 years ago, yet agility remains a focus of enterprise IT, DevOps will live on as the construct for collaboration across teams that are not necessarily accustomed to working together. A prime example is DevSecOps, which integrates software and security teams along with their tools and platforms. Some believe platform engineering could replace DevOps, site reliability engineering, or both; others believe it is integral and all are required. These trends and others are reflected in responses to our Cloud Native, Platform Engineering 2024 survey.
